Well, about darn time!!  Avatar Spirit has announced that the second half of season three (and sadly the last eps overall ~pout~) of Avatar: The Last Airbender are *FINALLY* going to air.  Of course they don't start until July 14.  ~whimper~  Which, strangely, is after the next dvd volume release which includes some of the new eps.  Odd.

In any case....  trailer for the rest of season three.  Most cool.  Especially Zuko.  Of course.  Heh.

Me? Zuko fangirl?  Nah....~grin~

Now to wait until probably February for the second half of the season. ~sigh~

And tonight...  The Heroes mid-season finale ... which could the second season finale if the writers' strike doesn't end.  Regardless, I'm looking forward to it.

No comments from the recent episode since it was pretty much mostly filler.  And no Zuko.  :-(  And more ... goofy than I like.  Though I understand that this is a kids' show so goofiness to offset the seriousness is required.  Still somewhat bizarre that a kids' show makes me analyze the episodes more than the grown-up shows I watch.  ~sigh~

And speaking of analyzing...

I bought Spider-Man 3 last week and watched it -- or watched roughly half since I fast-forwarded through quite a bit that I didn't like enough to sit through a second time (mostly Pete being mean or bad guy only scenes) since I saw this in the theater.  And then I got to the scenes with Harry after his fight with evil-Pete and after Pete gets his head on straight again.   And the *second* Harry turns around to look at Pete and reveals his face, all I could think of was "hmm....he could play Zuko."  That thought pretty much obsessed me the rest of my rewatching.  I mean, really, he's got the moodiness, the not-so-great kinda-sorta-evil father, the choice between good and evil....  Obviously I've been watching and reading too much Avatar.   And I would hope that Zuko won't have the same, albeit redeeming and heroic, end as Harry.

Of course, Zuko should probably be played by an Asian, most likely Japanese, in the live action trilogy I've heard talk of being done by M. Night Shymalan (sp?).  To me, the Fire Nation seems pretty samurai-ish.  Earth Kingdom...China perhaps?  At least considering that massive wall around Ba Sing Se which screamed "Great Wall" to me.  Water Tribes...Inuits?  Air Nomads....um....not really sure on that since we've seen so few.  Really just Aang and his memories.  Maybe India Indians.  If done right, a live action movie or trilogy could be cool.  Especially with all the fancy CGI and wire work and other nifty special effects tools now available.  Now casting....that could be interesting....

Avatar, the Last Airbender 3x06: The Avatar and the Firelord

spoilers )

Right now, among the few series that I watch regularly, Avatar is the one I most enjoy and find most fulfilling.  I'm not sure if that says something about the quality of "grown-up" tv -- which it probably does considering all the reality tv series crap (*sorry*) out there -- or the fact that I like my tv to be about characters and growth and not about quick thrills.  Since Farscape, there really hasn't been a series that builds its own mythology and complex characters with quite this much excellence.  Heroes tries...but it moves slow and IMO has too many characters to make all of them intriguing and entertaining and wholly three-dimensional.

I find it amusing that creators (aside of Farscape, though SciFi itself said this) of shows I've watched in the past have said that viewers don't want arc stories -- Avatar is a kid's show and is one long three-part arc and from what I've heard, is Nick's highest rated series.   Perhaps most grown-ups (since I guess being past 30, I qualify) don't have the attention span to watch and remember and pick apart stuff like kids.  Or perhaps it's a quality belonging to scifi/fantasy fans in general since the scifi/fantasy fandoms I lurk in tend to have fans that watch and pay attention and discuss and occasionally obsess. ~grin~

romance
So I finished reading Royal Destiny and while it was a good tale and ended logically ....  the end was unsatisfying from a romantic perspective.  ~sigh~  I got to the final chapter and then the epilogue and felt like the author changed her mind at the last minute and did the "and then they were hit by a bus" thing (quote picked up from a Mercedes Lackey book intro years and years ago).   All that bulid-up and no happy ending.  Quite disgusting.  Hopefully Sharon Shinn's Dark Moon Defender will end better.  I'm over halfway through it and thus far, it's pretty good.  Justin in my type of hero character -- strong, silent type until pushed and then out come those swords.  Heh.  What is it with me and sword-wielding heroes....

I was hoping to get some inspiration to work on the next Oracle's Tears tale which involves the "sweet/easy" romance rather than any of the "angsty/hard" ones.  I've come to the conclusion that the "sweet" ones are harder to write and not as appealing to me either to write or to watch/read.

This is probably why I like Katara/Zuko on Avatar rather than Katara/Aang.  The latter is too easy.  Sadly, I won't be the least surprised if the series ends with Katang instead of Zutara.  I'm assuming season 3 (this year) is the final season.  Though with the "Day of the Black Sun" showing up in mid-season, one wonders what will happen the rest of the season.  Perhaps rebuilding? Treaties?  Chasing "those that got away"?  Hmm....  Whatever happens, I hope that Zuko grows a bit more of a spine and stops letting others tell him what he should be doing.  He needs to figure out what he wants.  Iroh tried last season and *almost* had him being his own man but then Azula the evil persuader came along and he folded under the pressure.
