trek book
I finished reading the last Trek: TNG novel, Before Dishonor by Peter David, this afternoon.  A bit more technical than I like (which meant fast skimming reading), a lot less humorous than is typical for his writing, and just .... um ...  it ended in a very unexpected way.

Janeway got Borgified early on in the novel and while things were being set up to make it appear that there was no way back, this is still Trek.  Things almost always get fixed.  And yet....not this time.  The Borg ship got blown up (with some help from Seven and a planet killer) and Janeway went with it.  And apparently is now with Lady Q in their dimension.  Um...okay.  The only upside of this was that at least Chakotay showed up in the memorial epilogue, even if he had no dialogue and was never actually named.  But "strange tattoo on his forehead" sorta gave him away.

The parts of the book with Picard's new crew muntinying.  I'm not impressed with who he picked for new personnel.  Besides the fact that I can't figure out how to pronounce their names, they're just annoying and I wanted to smack them.  This is Picard!!  He knows what he's doing even if you can't figure out his plan.  Jeez....

I am assuming that whatever the next novel chronologically, perhaps Greater Than the Sum (next July) will continue the storyline.  The others coming out next year are Mirror Universe novels, the next Titan novel, the Terok Nor trilogy, and the *much much much* anticipated continuation of the DS9 relaunch in Fearful Symmetry.  And then in fall, there's a trilogy labeled Star Trek Destiny.  Not sure what those are supposed to be about yet, though they could very well be part of the storyline the Trek authors are setting up now.  I do so love this lovely shared universe they've created.
